We put the fun in funk. Good Funk is a Natural wine bar and cafe with piquettes, pet nats, co-ferments, clarets, and pintxos, located in Chicago's Loop and West Town neighborhood.
GoodFunk showcases the best of the natural wine world by highlighting winemakers from across the globe, not just traditional winemaking regions. Paired with equally funky, rustic food, GoodFunk proves wine can be affordable, quirky and most importantly fun.
The winemakers we feature may be a little crazy, but they maintain their vineyards with precision and give a truthful representation of the land they farm while also assuming higher risks by not using herbicides, pesticides, and additives. They are small production producers and our list rotates frequently to give you something new and fun each time you come in, offered in flights, by the bottle and by-the-glass.
We love the ultra-small production wines and rotate our list frequently to give you something new and fun to try each time you come in, offered in flights, by the bottle and by-the-glass.
A craveable menu filled with his favorite bar snacks is presented by Bonhomme Culinary Director and Beatnik Executive Chef Marcos Campos. Natural wine-friendly dishes that offer some funk of their own and ingredients that incorporate pickling, smoking and curing.
GoodFunk is located in the historic six-story Great Lakes Building, which was originally built in 1912 as a mill and is the first building with green space along the Chicago River. As anyone who has taken the essential Chicago Architecture Foundation River Cruise can tell you, prior to its construction, this was the site of a temporary structure erected for the 1860 Republican National Convention, when Abraham Lincoln accepted the Republican nomination for President.
Over the years, the Loop has become a fantastic residential community with the addition of modern condominium high-rises alongside the Chicago River and stunning skyscrapers for which the area is widely known. We believe that every fabulous neighborhood deserves a fabulous wine bar. GoodFunk is that place, where guests can discover the next great regions and winemakers of the world while enjoying decadent bar nibbles and conversation.
Concepted and designed by Maison Bonhomme, GoodFunk brings together the contemporary sensibility and inviting nature of a neighborhood wine bar with the artful and sophisticated aura of 1930s café society in Europe and America. Inside the cozy space, centerpieces include plush velvet champagne-hued bar seats, custom wall coverings by renowned artist Erik DeBat depicting scenes from Old-World cafés and a stunning 16-seat cosmopolitan quartzite bar with matching communal tables nearby. Behind the bar, brass-and-ash wood wine displays crafted by local metal fabricators Wayward Machine Co. offer a preview of the conservas GoodFunk offers as well as bottles of natural wine, their signature whimsical labels adding to the eye candy.
